Definitions: In general, a household, in the statistical sense of the term, refers to all the occupants of the same dwelling, without these persons necessarily being linked by family ties or marriage (in the case of cohabitation, for example). A household may consist of only one person.
Statistics: Household data are taken from the National Register (NR) by Statbel and are based on the official population of Belgium (without the waiting register). A new household typology was adopted in 2015 by Statbel. This typology, which is close to the LIPRO typology developed at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), makes it possible to reconstruct cohabiting households by algorithm, even if they are not declared as such in the National Register. The datasets presented here are for private households only.
